What is Armoury Crate?

Armoury Crate is ASUS’s all-in-one software built for ROG (Republic of Gamers) and TUF (The Ultimate Force) Gaming hardware. It replaces the old clutter of separate fan utilities, RGB apps, and driver updaters with a single control centre. Whether you own a ROG motherboard, an ASUS GPU, a gaming laptop, or any ASUS-branded peripheral, this is the software designed to manage them all.

You can download Armoury Crate ASUS on Windows 10/11. From RGB customisation and fan curves to real-time hardware stats and driver notifications, everything runs through one interface. It also installs a kernel-level Windows driver called ASUS System Control Interface (ASCI), which provides the software with direct access to your hardware’s firmware for full functionality. Here’s how it works:

Aura Sync

Aura Sync lets you control and synchronise RGB lighting across all compatible ASUS devices, motherboards, GPUs, monitors, and peripherals.

Aura Creator

How to Install Armoury Crate

We’ve made this guide as the ASUS Armoury Crate installer is not a standard setup file, and it pulls components from ASUS servers during installation. Follow each step, or you will run into issues.

Before You Start

Remove older ASUS tools like Aura Sync, GPU Tweak II, or AI Suite (they will all be in the Armoury Crate). Also, uninstall Armoury Crate (see below how). Disable VPNs, pause antivirus, and close other RGB apps.

Grab the Armoury Crate & Aura Creator Installer from the link here. The file is around 5 MB as it’s a bootstrapper, not the full app. Extract the ZIP, right-click ArmouryCrateInstaller.exe, and select Run as Administrator even if you are on an admin account. Skipping this causes silent driver permission failures.

The installer scans your system, motherboard, GPU, connected peripherals, and decides which modules to download. This takes 30 to 90 seconds. Do not close or click around during this phase.

Add Aura Creator only if you want advanced RGB animations. (200 MB & doesn’t run in the background unless you open it.)
ASUS System Control Interface (skip if you’re on a desktop, as it’s required on ASUS laptops for fan control and battery management features)
GameFirst VI (a network prioritisation tool that directs bandwidth to your games on busy home networks. Not necessary on a dedicated gaming connection.)

Uncheck
MyASUS and ASUS Live Update. ASUS Live Update runs silently in the background and can occasionally install a driver you did not request. If you prefer to manage driver updates manually, uncheck it during setup.

Installation takes 5 to 20 minutes. The progress bar will appear frozen at points (it’s normal). Your screen may flash black briefly during driver registration, which is normal. When it finishes, restart immediately. Do not skip this. The kernel-level drivers Armoury Crate installs are only fully active after a clean reboot.

Getting Started: How to Use Armoury Crate?

Once installed, work through these steps for the cleanest setup experience.

First Launch

Once done, open the Devices tab and confirm all your ASUS hardware appears correctly. If anything is missing, reseat its cable and restart before continuing.

Note! For launch on startup, go to Settings, then General, and toggle on “Launch Armoury Crate minimised.”

Run Updates First

Go to Settings, then Update Centre, and click Check for Updates. Install firmware and driver updates before changing anything else.

Install the Assistant Component

Find Assistant in the list and click Install. Despite the vague label, this unlocks fan curves, auto-tuning, and Scenario Profiles.

Step 4: Set Performance Mode and First Game Profile

Link a game title, assign a performance mode, and a lighting effect. This makes the whole system click into place and confirms everything is working correctly.

Configure Fan Curves

The default ASUS fan curve is conservative, so for heavy gaming sessions, manually push the 70°C and 80°C points up by 10 to 15% to prevent thermal throttling. Toggle AI Cooling on to let the system handle spin-up and spin-down timing automatically.

Set Up Aura Sync

Note! For launch on startup, go to Settings, then General, and toggle on “Launch Armoury Crate minimised.”

Automate with Scenario Profiles

Once configured, this turns Armoury Crate into an automated control system instead of manual switching.

Disable Unnecessary Features (Reduce Bloat)

Content Platform and Promotion extras (optional downloads that add background services with no real benefit. Skip them.)
GameFirst (sidebar) (toggle off unless you share a network with multiple heavy users)

Optional: Enable the Armoury Crate Virtual Pet

Armoury Crate includes ROG Omni, a desktop companion similar in spirit to virtual pet experiences like Tomodachi Life. Go to the Featured tab, select Platform Content, find Virtual Pet, and click Get. Omni walks across your desktop, reacts to notifications, and can be resized or pinned to a fixed position if it gets in the way.

Is Armoury Crate Bad or Good? Pros and Cons (Honest Review)

Armoury Crate has a rougher reputation than its actual functionality deserves, but the criticism is not baseless. Past issues, including an armoury crate installer stuck, firmware that auto-reinstalled the software after a clean Windows install and a 2024 privilege escalation vulnerability in the Armoury Crate Service, damaged trust significantly.

ASUS has since patched the security flaw and dialled back the aggressive reinstall behaviour, but running an outdated version is still not recommended. Here are the pros and cons of the latest Armoury Crate:

Common Armoury Crate Problems and Fixes

Most armoury crate problems link back to leftover files, blocked services, or incomplete setup. Fixing them is usually easy.

Armoury Crate Won’t Install/Install Stuck

If your Armoury Crate installer stalls or fails, the cause could be VPN, antivirus software, or leftover files from a previous installation.

Fix

Disable VPN and antivirus temporarily
Run the installer as an administrator
Use the official uninstall tool before reinstalling
Avoid emulators or virtual machines
If it still fails, download the Armoury Crate Lite Log Tool instead

If Armoury Crate shows a blank white or black screen on launch. Do this:

Run Windows Update
Install Microsoft Edge if not already present, then clear the app cache by deleting the contents of C:\ProgramData\ASUS\ArmoryCrate.
Relaunch.

Uninstall Armoury Crate Properly

Never use Windows’ built-in uninstaller to uninstall Armoury Crate. It leaves behind driver files and registered services that cause problems on reinstall.

Armoury Crate Not Detecting Devices

Blurry Text or UI Issues

In steady state, it uses under 150 MB of RAM and under 1% CPU. The main window uses a Chromium-based renderer that spikes RAM temporarily when open. Keep it minimised to the system tray, and the performance impact is negligible.

Open Armoury Crate, go to Settings, then General, and toggle Launch on Startup off. Leave the background service running, RGB profiles and fan curves still apply automatically from boot without the window opening.
